Wall Street Journal(WSJ) Twitter Account Hacked By Syrian Electronic Army

On Tuesday afternoon, Wall Street Journal Twitter account was hacked by the Syrian Electronic Army and has posted a message claiming that Ira Winker is a cockroach.

The SEA, a hacker group loyal to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, is best known for hijacking Western media companies' social media accounts.
The Syrian Electronic Army hijacked the WSJ Africa (@wsjafrica), the WSJ Europe (@wsjeurope), the WSJ Vintage (@vsjvintage), and the WSJ.D (@wsjd) Twitter accounts.

WSJ quickly became aware of the incident and removed the tweets.

“We have secured our compromised Twitter accounts and they are now functioning normally,” the media giant noted on Twitter a few hours ago.

Last year, the SEA hijacked the Associated Press account and tweeted fake news that the White House had been bombed. CNN's account was used to tweet a photo of the Syrian flag. They also took down the New York Times' website.
