PF Chang's Chain Confirmed Credit and Debit Card Breach

Credit and debit card details stolen from P F Chang’s China Bistro, a nationwide American chain of restaurants, went on sale on an underground website this week at a site best-known for selling off the details of victims of the Target data breach.

The chain has 211 locations in America, as well as sites in Mexico, Canada and the Middle East, and a subsidiary chain Pei Wei’s Asian Diner, with 192 location

P.F. CHANG'S discovered this incident on June 10, 2014, the United States Secret Services alerted P.F. Chang's to this incident.

The hack follows similar breaches at Sally's Beauty Supply, Nieman Marcus, and Michael's, in which hackers installed malware at the point of sale.

Target was the victim of the largest such attack in recent memory, with around 40 million cards stolen over the Thanksgiving holiday. That theft cost banks and credit card unions upward of $200 million.

P.F. Chang said that last Tuesday, June 10th, “P.F. Chang's learned of a security compromise” and “Immediately … initiated an investigation with the United States Secret Service and a team of third-party forensics experts to understand the nature and scope of the incident.”

That investigation “is still ongoing” but has already “concluded that data has been compromised.”

The chain admits that “credit card and debit card numbers that have been used at P.F. Chang's are involved.”

PF Chang said "We encourage you to check this website for updates. If you have additional questions, you may also call 1-877-782-6356."
